Meet our Founder, Menka Patel
Menka is a strategic advisor and investor for early-stage companies
She has a sharp focus on consumer, healthcare, and sustainability. As the principal investor at Amla Ventures, Menka partners closely with founders to elevate their brand strategy, streamline operations, and secure capital for scalable growth. With her data-driven approach, she’s been a driving force in expanding and supporting a diverse range of startups. Her experience lies in helping companies grow through hands-on mentorship and operational excellence. She works across industries to ensure her portfolio companies are set up for sustainable, long-term success.
Global strategy & operations
She’s led strategy & operations in Asia for Kate Spade New York, facilitated microloans in Swaziland with non-profit Technoserve, Africa, and advised a women’s health startup. She brings this well-rounded perspective to every project she tackles.
Passion
To enrich the entrepreneurial landscape by leveling the playing field for women and minority founders and empowering Companies to realize their full potential. Her goal is to foster a more equitable and impactful startup ecosystem.
Education
Menka graduated from Columbia University in New York City. She spent the early part of her career at as as an Investment Banking analyst at Bank of America both in New York City & Mumbai, India and the bulk of her career at at Kate Spade New York overseeing Global Business Development & Strategy. Menka transitioned to advisory and consulting with startups with a consumer bent and has been an investor for over a decade, largely in alternative assets and property (including storage, parking garages, and commercial real estate) and more recently in Angel and VC. She currently resides in Hong Kong with her husband and two children.
Advice to founders and new investors
To Founders, dream big and start small and scrappy - iterate and never give up. To investors, it is never to late to start your investing journey - conduct your own research, ask many questions and know your risk tolerance. For both, never forget the power of your community and network for guidance along the way.
